First, Neat places your scans in a different location than the rest of your files, like Word documents and spreadsheets. Second, the Neat storage methods restrict you from being able to use other programs. For example, if you have a favorite image-editing program, you can't use it with Neat Desk or Neat Receipts.

It looks as though you are an Intuit Quicken user as I have been since the early 1990s. I have bad news for you. Quicken 2018 is ONLY Cloud based and also will require an $80/year subscription (prices vary based on functionality and version). I hate to say this but it’s the best way for these companies to make money. Effectively you’re locked into their product and if it’s on the cloud, well it’s their systems and you’re stuck. I’ve opted to buy Quicken 2017 so i can upgrade my home PC from 2016 and will wait a year or two before moving to the Cloud hosted option, if I ever go taht route. BTW – after reading a lot of other postings, I purchaed the $400 ScanSnap scanner.
Neat tries to bully you into thinking you need their buggy service without leaving you options, says they won’t help you BC you’re not a subscriber, and only care about their bottom line. Not previous legacy users. What’s really messed up is Neat won’t even create a substitute software so that legacy owners could still use their scanner! At lease as a regular scanner to PC or USB. Pulled some real proprietary hardware/ software isolation like Apple. I am not a fan of the mass migration to subscription based service with EVERYTHING. Cost of living is getting higher with an annual or monthly subscription for every service.

I have to wait until it is done. I have had several documents just disappear that I had to re-scan. If I look at the folder I can tell a document is processing. That is because Neat defaults to “All Items” every time I click on a folder. The categories and accounts fields have many defaults I will never use and that I cannot remove or edit.
Not to mention the privacy issue. How do I know what they do with my financial information? So I’m unnerved at the idea of needing to find another system. Preview also has a File, Import From Scanner command. But I don’t know if either of these options will work with your scanner. They don’t with my Fujitsu ScanSnap.Even if they did, I would probably not use it because you really need to have document scanning software that can handle multiple pages and filing. What does Neat recommend? Ask their support as they may know of the best option if you want to not use their software.
