So off we trundle to X-Rite and download the Colormunki Photo software – v1.2.1. Download: PC Version Mac Version Notes: Added code to check if instrument is properly mounted on computer screen. An important part of the measurement cycle with a device like this is calibration. My own i1 spectrophotometer comes with its own white tile in a calibration base unit. With the ColorMunki, the tile is built inside the unit and accessed by pointing the bar down 45 degrees. The original version of the software 1.1 worked without problem. The opening window was displayed perfectly and normally sized for my 4k Monitor. Fast forward and following the loading of the latest version when opening the software Im faced with much reduced sized operating window with much of content mis-shaped or constricted I contacted Xrite email help and received a number of solutions from the European Division none of which solved the problem. In the end they informed me that it was a update software issue and which they will escalate to Xrite (I take it USA) I should add that playing around with the monitors resolution and scaling settings did not resolve the issue Take a look at my Video on the newest Software. Or to read colors outside the computer if you so desire. IMHO, your i1 Display (a colorimeter) is a superior instrument for display calibration. I then got a box asking me to save the new monitor profile, which I did. My entire screen immediately turned light grey--solid grey with no icons, desktop picture or mouse pointer. Not much you can do with that.
Hi Joe, I don’t own an i1DP, but as far as I’m aware the colourimeter inside it is the same as the ColorMunki Display. The ColorMunki Photo is a slightly different beast, using a spectrometer, but I have to say that I would not recommend it any more when it comes to calibrating modern-day printers – they don’t print anywhere near enough test patches. But your printer faults have NOTHING to do with your monitor profile, or the device that’s made it. They are down to either bad soft-proofing, an incorrect printer profile selection when sending the image to the print driver, or a really poor.icc printer profile. What printer, paper, and ink set are you using Joe?
I finally got it to work accidentally by turning off, then rebooting the computer w/ the device already plugged in. It does't address the underlying problem on why I need to do use this method. However it is an acceptable work around for me. Let me know if this works. I've tried uite a few different USB ports on the tower and on the powered USB hub I use for most stuff and which worked fine with the Colormunki till mid August.
You can use the latter three with the command. State is either enabled or disabled. Items 'item'. (if present) is a list of items connected to the UI element (i.e. Selection choices).

Report › Verify calibration Run verify measurements on the selected display as it is currently setup (ie. Video card gamma table). This will use the usual input parameters to establish the expected (target) characteristic. Note that if the initial calibration was modified due to it being out of gamut of the display, verify will show the resulting discrepancy.
X Rite Colormunki Display
The software doesn’t straight out say this, but I believe the “Easy” settings are gamma = 2.2. And white point = D65; these are the suggested settings for most digital photographers.
Also, I will be taking another reviewer's advice and trying out the open source offerings. I would no longer recommend completely avoiding this product, but for this price you can do better. Pros: I have owned the ColorMunki Display for a couple of years now, and have used it to successfully calibrate many monitors, and even an LCD television. The hardware on it is nearly identical to the more expensive i1 Display Pro, but it is a little slower. I'm a huge fan of this little device! Cons: I completely agree with the other reviewers, that the software for this thing is terrible! But you can download some good open source programs instead (see below).
The DDC auto detect control will quickly determine if your monitor is compliant and if so, perform one button display profiling. ColorMunki can also calibrate multiple displays with ease, and provides before and after visualization, as well as calibration reminder prompts. Projector Profiling Using Video projectors to display images has always been a hit-or-miss proposition in regards to color accuracy.
It also has an uninstaller that has a power scan feature that will find all related registry entries left behind by the standard uninstall. I have been running the free version for several years on XP machines and for about 9 months on a Win8 machine without any problems or having to undo a clean. My Win8 machine, a Dell XPS 8500, has USB 2 and USB 3 ports with some non powered. Some things will run on either and others (older printer) will not. Use the above points in any order you wish. 3a may be the best starting point.
Or, to put it another way, it makes sure you profile both your monitor and your printer. That, after all, is how you get them to match. But don't expect perfect fidelity. The best match you can make is really an approximate one. Color is generated quite differently on the two devices. Taking spot measurements can be addictive. You've been warned.

First, remember to disable any color management or correction done in the printer. You did this to print the test charts and, if you're smart, you saved that configuration for an occasion just like this. With the printer relieved of color management, your application can handle the job in its Print dialog. You can either set the values manually or use X-Rite's AppSet, installed with ColorMunki Photo and accessible from the ColorMunki Photo Tray, to set the values automatically. Let's walk through these two options in Photoshop CS3's Print dialog. AppSet's job is to set the printer profile (and a few other things) in select applications. In Photoshop it automatically enables Photoshop to manage color, picks the ICC profile selected in Photo Tray and sets the rendering intent to perceptual.
The main window will hide during measurements, and should pop up again after they are completed (or after an error). You can always cancel out of running measurements using the “Cancel” button in the progress dialog, or by pressing ESC or Q. Adjusting a LCD display For LCD displays, you will in most cases only want to adjust white point (if the screen has RGB gain or other whitepoint controls) and white level (with the white level also affecting the black level unless you have a local dimming LED model), as many LCDs lack the necessary “offset” controls to adjust the black point (and even if they happen to have them, they often change the overall color temperature, not only the black point). Also note that for most LCD screens, you should leave the “contrast” control at (factory) default.
