's Laura Snapes gave the album a 9-of-10 review and wrote 'the dark purple rumble and hypnotic coo of their vocals swim along, dragging the listener beneath its beguiling surface into a swathe of subtle time changes and guitar prone to sudden swan dives into heart-stabbing gold arcs from oil painting-thick landscapes.' Writer Ryan Dombal referred to The Fool as 'a nine-song seance of an album that's as subtle as it is disquieting' in his review and Chris Martins of awarded the album 4 of 5 stars, summarizing that ' The Fool is built on 's low end, moody chords, droning vocals, and doomy lyrics, but it's more than a tribute.' Boomkat Product Review: **Deluxe Edition featuring bonus tracks, b-sides and remixes** Having previous appeared on the Manimal Vinyl label, all-girl LA quartet Warpaint release their debut album for Rough Trade, produced by Tom Biller (Karen O, Liars) with mixing from Andrew Weatherall and Adam Samuels (Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam). The band have attracted a certain amount of buzz in the build up to this release, thanks in part to high profile touring slots with the likes of The xx, The Walkmen, Yeasayer and Band Of Horses. Unusually for a record steeped in a certain amount of hype, The Fool is a fairly understated affair that announces itself with the spooky, skeletal strains of 'Set Your Arms Down', interweaving roaming basslines and strands of echoing guitars. 'Warpaint' is similarly arid in its constitution, acquiring a chorused, Cure-like aesthetic that serves to highlight Emily Kokal's soft yet magnetic delivery.

Beside that when it first started all I could think of was my old Cabaret Voltaire cassettes that used to litter the floor of my Geo. Don't get me wrong, Cabaret Voltaire were a pretty decent band but some of it could get monotonous or boring. PVT seemed to have taken all of the simple uninteresting parts of that old style and crafted their current boring “masterpiece?“ Needless to say, I did what I normally would not do, I went to the patio and waited for Warpaint. I would definitely give PVT a second chance though, I don’t wish to imply that they had not any merit. They seem like a band that probably has a better recorded sound. Maybe if you had a familiarity with that, the live sound would be better.

I Was Watching Glasto 2011 on the television, Most of which i thought was utterly boreing shite. I've been to the festival four times, but it definately wern't for the music. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of good stuff, but they rarely get shown on the tv. Anyway, as i said I was not impressed, Then this all girl group appeared, I'd never heard of them before, WARPAINT.

Jason Heller of noted the album 'coasts instead on a humid, hazy, oozing pulse that's less ice age and more malarial swamp' and 'with a torpid and feverish dreaminess,' giving the album a B+ rating. Writing for, Philip Cosores awarded the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, called it 'a genre record for a genre that doesn't exist' and admired the album's production, stating 'though the guitar leads sound unpolished, the vocals sound untrained, and the bass can overwhelm the songs, the lack of perfection makes more of a statement than all the in the world.' Andrzej Lukowski, in his 7-out-of-10 review in, said 'there is an incredible level of detail and accomplishment to The Fool' and Jenny Mulligan of described the 'haunting atmosphere' of the album as 'wholly intoxicating' in her 4-star review. Reviewer Laura Jespersen gave The Fool a rating of 86% and described it as 'uncomplicated, indie-girl rock with plenty of hazy guitar and a swooning, restrained sadness'; also described it as 'psych-rock'.
